What is Reiki?
Reiki (Ray-key) is a Japanese healing technique, which involves the channeling of Universal life force energy. This non-invasive healing art lays hands on the body in various places. The body draws in this Universal life force energy to relieve itself of physical, emotional and spiritual blocks. Reiki assists the natural healing process of the body enhancing its ability to rebalance to a healthier state. Reiki can be used to heal oneself or others. It is effective on anything created from life force energy, including plants and animals. The word Reiki is derived from two Japanese words. Rei means divine wisdom or God-consciousness.
It is the energy that governs the functioning of the universe. It is known by different names in different cultures. Ki means life force energy. It is the God-consciousness (Rei) that guides the life force energy (Ki) in Reiki healing. Therefore, it can be said that Reiki is Spiritual in Nature. Reiki is not a religion and holds no religious creed or doctrine to any one religious background or denomination. It can be practiced and experienced by anyone regardless of their religious orientation without conflict to their faith in their creator. How does Reiki Work?
The Universal life force energy of Reiki has as intelligence on its own and goes to where it is needed in the individual being healed. It comes from an unlimited source. It is not controlled or directed by the practitioner, and so it is not limited by the practitioner's mind, abilities or state of health. The recipient is the one who accepts and controls the healing. If at a deeper soul level they have a desire to be healed, and if the timing is perfect for them, a complete healing can occur. Reiki is very simply applied through the process of touch by a trained and certified Usui Reiki Practitioner.
When the practitioner applies the hands to begin the treatment, the Universal Life force energy begins to flow through them, out their hands in an amplified and focused manner. The Reiki energy does what it has to do for the person. Their body draws the energy it needs a reawakening its ability to heal itself. The Reiki energy manages its own flow to and within the recipient. It has the unique ability to be self balancing within the body. To truly understand Reiki healing it is recommended that you experience a treatment.
- A full Reiki treatment or a spot treatment can be done anywhere, at any time.
- A treatment usually lasts from 60-90 minutes, depending on the amount of time booked.
- You remain fully clothed and wear comfortable, loose clothing.
- You may be asked to recline on a table during the treatment.
- Soft relaxing music may be played to assist you with the relaxation process.
- Treatment covers the front and the back of the body. The hand positions used to apply Reiki healing ensure complete coverage of all major organs, glands and joints of the body.
- Reiki affects each individual in a very personal way. The outcomes are different for every treatment and the recipient being the determining factor in the end result.

Reiki training and certification
Reiki training and certification is acquired by participation in a class held by a Reiki Master. Generally there are three levels or degrees in Reiki. Each level has a specific attunement process to empower the student and enable them to channel Reiki energy for that specific level.
